Misfits Gun Control

On HuluPlus there is a show available called Misfits (Wikipedia).  At first glance it seems like a typical anti-hero story, where a bunch of juvenile delinquents stuck in a detention center get super powers.  The show is produced in Britain (more on the importance of that later).

The program itself has an interesting premise, as you discover that other people, besides the main characters, have developed superhuman abilities from the same freak storm.  So the viewer and main characters are left guessing what persons were affected and what they are capable of.  Seems harmless, right?

It doesn't take long before the vulgarities begin, and they are plentiful. Besides the continuous profane language, sexual content, which is on par with a soft-core porno, takes up what seems to be the majority of the show.  Eight out of ten scenes viewed were or led to graphic depictions of fornication.  It was quite shocking.  Especially since it is on HuluPlus and not some adult content website or channel, which it could easily be.  But that still is not the most interesting part.

Recently there has been an endless barrage of liberals screaming about how England has gotten it right by banning all guns.  They claim violent crime is down, and gun violence is practically nonexistent.  Both are pure lies.  Gun crime in Britain has skyrocketed, and it continues to rise (FrontPageMag.com).  And Misfits, interestingly enough, actually helps show why and supports what gun advocates have been arguing: taking firearms away from lawful citizens does not stop criminals from obtaining them.

In one scene, one delinquent felt he needed protection.  He asked another if she could get him a gun, insisting that she knew someone who sold them.  She responded that there is no way she would get him a firearm but never denied that she couldn't.

Now most would not think twice about that exchange, or they would say a science fiction television series does not depict real life.  But this is not an abnormal show, aside from the extraordinary abilities.  The show takes place in modern day Britain, not some fictional area or past or future time, and the language used, situations, responses, and dialog are all typical.  Plus, no explanation is needed and no imagination required to understand what you are seeing, again excluding the obvious superhero references.  But most importantly, the writers put the "gun scene" in there because it is what people inherently know.  Malcontents, lawbreakers, gang members, etc., still use guns, regardless of their illegality.  How else would record high gun crime occur in Britain?  Model citizens are not going to risk breaking the law and facing things like jail time and fines, about which criminals could not care less.  And the average citizen probably has no clue how to get one; criminals have the means and knowledge to procure firearms.

Every now and then the left slips, just a little, and tells us the truth, something they hide and distort constantly.  That's why it is so important to harp on it.  They know that their ideas do not work and often make things worse, so their flawed ideology must be exposed at every possible moment.  For, when challenged, the liberal "truth" always deteriorates, and basic human understanding and common sense prevail.
